You might be a Blockhead, if:
You've taken a ferry to Block Island, docked a boat at New Harbor, or maybe flown into the Block Island Airport. You've had breakfast at Aldo's, Ernie's or Bethany’s; lunch at the BeachHead, Water Street Café, or Town Beach; or dinner at The Oar or Sharky’s. Maybe you have climbed the loooooooooong wooden stairway at Mohegan Bluffs, hiked into Rodman’s Hollow, or taken a sunset stroll to the North Light or Dorey’s Cove. You've taken a bike, scooter or just your sandals all around the Island. You've boogey boarded, collected rocks, or setup a cairn at the beach. At one point in time you enjoyed an afternoon on a rocking chair at the Surf Hotel and most likely thrown a few back at Ballard’s, Yellow Kittens or Cap’n Nicks.
Our Blockhead Story
It all started with a day trip to Block Island in the summer of 1988. Daughter Lynnea was 11 and son Brad was 7. We spent the day at the beach. Our next trip to the Block was the following week…. another day trip, this time we all biked around the island. It was at this point that we knew we were “Blockheads”, a name we’ve called ourselves since. After taking many day trips for several summers we knew it was time to spend long weekends, which we did for the next couple of years, and then we bought a timeshare at the Neptune House in 1994. Since then, we have spent weeks in the spring every now and then, but our main visit is the first week in August. That’s when we have our family vacation each year. Our family has expanded, Lynnea is married to Kenny and Brad is married to Shaleen. Lynnea and Kenny had their first child in June 2009. Our first grandchild!!! A Baby Blockhead!!!! Brad and Shaleen are now expecting their own baby Blockhead! We have the best “Blockhead” of a time when we all vacation together. And we all agree that when a “Blockhead” gets back to Block Island…..it’s like seeing an old friend.
